Eva Paola Velasquez — Artist, Cultural Advocate & Founder, Vuelta Sur Cultural Foundation

Eva Paola Velásquez is a multidisciplinary artist and cultural advocate whose work addresses pressing concerns of the modern world, including ontological explorations of what it means to be human, the homogenization of culture, and the erosion of faith in contemporary society. Born and raised in Esperanza, Sonora, Mexico, a small rural town, she was immersed from an early age in the stories and traditions of her ancestry, including those of the Yaqui people—experiences that fostered her deep appreciation for heritage, storytelling, and the transformative power of art.

Throughout her career, Velasquez has collaborated with leading institutions, including Museo Frida Kahlo, Museo Diego Rivera Anahuacalli, Zona Maco, and the Vancouver Art Gallery, gaining insight into the intersections of artistic practice, cultural preservation, and community engagement.

These experiences inspired her to establish the Vuelta Sur Cultural Foundation, an organization committed to supporting young artists, preserving Mexico’s diverse cultural heritage, and fostering dialogue across communities through programs, workshops, and scholarships. Through Vuelta Sur, Velasquez connects her artistic practice with cultural stewardship, creating spaces where creativity, heritage, and human connection converge to address contemporary challenges and inspire future generations.
